In 2014, there were over a million violent crimes in the USA reported by law enforcement and crimes continue to be committed regularly. We want to empower people to take their safety into their own hands by providing all the information necessary to evaluate their surroundings in an easy and accessible way. We also provide helpful tools to promote safety in communities.
NeoSafety was designed with the following features:
Personal
Safety
Safety ratings based on user’s personalized information and real-time crime statistics. In the profile page, we ask the user to input their gender and age for a more accurate safety rating. We also integrate real-time crime data from county crime databases. Every time the user accesses the safety rating page, our app requests data from the corresponding county database, which is as current as the counties keep it. With this information and the user's current location, our algorithm gives the user a safety rating from 1-5 that allows the user to be aware of how safe they are at any time, anywhere in our service areas.
Community Policing
Local emergency services contact. NeoSafety provides users with an organized list of phone numbers and locations of emergency services near them, including fire stations, police offices and hospitals. In case of emergency, users can contact and get help from these places with one tap.
Awareness
Categorized crime statistics with user-specified timespan and radius. Users can pick the timespan and radius to get a full report of crime statistics divided into categories such as thefts, murders, assaults, etc., displayed visually as a pie chart with a legend that has the exact numbers of each categorized crime committed.
Reporting crimes to local police. Our app provides users with quick access to the four closest police stations along with their phone numbers. User can call police stations through our app to report crimes or suspicious activities they witnessed quickly and easily.

We want to send the message that NeoSafety is all about personal safety and building safer communities. However, we had limited time to build our app for this project. There are many features that we still wanted to integrate into our app in the future. Below are some of our future features:
Safest Route
Calculates the safest route to the user’s inputted destination based on crime statistics weighted by their inputted demographics.
Crowdsourced Data
Users can enter their impressions and post crime experiences of certain neighborhoods with a rating of 1-5 of how dangerous they believe that area is. These data will be incorporated in our safety algorithm for other users.

Alerts
Sends alerts when users enter an unsafe neighborhood or when someone has reported dangerous or suspicious activity near the user.
Heatmap
An embedded heatmap that would show the amount of crimes committed in the area that our crime databases cover.
Multiple Accounts
Multiple accounts for users to simultaneously check the safety rating for more than one person, weighted by their demographics. Users can also connect with other accounts to check their loved ones’ safety status.

Uber Launch
Suggestion and ability to launch the Uber/Lyft app if the user is in an unsafe neighborhood.
